Program Name: Mobile Crisis Intervention Co-Response Program
Pay Range: Starting salary $65,000 to $72,000 plus language differential if applicable

Description of Position

The Jail Diversion Clinician collaborates with police, emergency medical services, and fire department personnel to conduct crisis evaluations aimed at reducing unnecessary involvement of individuals with mental health conditions in the criminal justice system. The clinician provides brief, solution-focused counseling to individuals and families experiencing a crisis and facilitates referrals to appropriate mental health, substance use treatment, and community-based resources. In addition, the clinician works closely with local emergency departments and other community treatment providers to coordinate care, provide support, and ensure timely connections to needed services.

Responsibilities include
  • Crisis Intervention & Clinical Assessment
    • Provide emergency diagnostic evaluations and phone triage for pediatric and adult patients to assess lethality and determine treatment plans.
    • Deliver real-time crisis response and follow-up care for 911 and police calls in partnership with law enforcement.
    • Develop safety plans and crisis management strategies to stabilize clients and families in the community.
    • Assist law enforcement with emergency psychiatric and substance use holds (Sections 12, 35, and 18).
  • Care Coordination & Collaboration
    • Connect families to services across the continuum of care, including educational services, state agencies, and social supports.
    • Consult with treatment teams, hospitals, courts, and insurance companies in strict compliance with HIPAA.
    • Participate in community outreach, homelessness initiatives, and CCIT meetings as directed by the police department and CCBC.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain electronic and manual records, including mental status exams, crisis assessments, and demographics.
    • Complete all mandated reports, program forms, and insurance (MCE) documentation.
    • Attend required supervision, team meetings, and trainings while adhering to all ethical and legal parameters.

Requirements

  • Candidates should hold a license-eligible Master's degree or be independently licensed as an LICSW, LMHC, or LMFT.
  • Licensure supervision is available.
  • The candidate must possess good organizational skills, as well as effective verbal, written and computer skills.
  • Proficiency with computers including ability to use or learn to use an electronic health record system, audio-visual communication technology (i.e. doxy or Zoom), and some use of Microsoft Office suite for emails, internal document access, and organization.
