Description of Position

The AMCI Peer Specialist on the Crisis Unit is an individual who has a unique perspective because of his/her own experience with serious and persistent mental illness. Become a part of the CCS (Community Crisis Stabilization Unit)! The CCS is a 24-hour, 8-bed crisis stabilization unit located in Norton, MA. Our unit is a short term, voluntary, no restraint psychiatric program for individuals who are experiencing acute psychiatric treatment needs which do not require a hospital level of care.

Be a part of innovative care and work collaboratively to meet the needs of individuals in the community who need a creative, flexible, dynamic team to support them in achieving their goals.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Work directly with individuals to promote engagement in services and ensure the individual’s perspective and preferences are heard and respected
  • Support individuals by providing encouragement, validation, and guidance from the perspective of someone who has successfully managed mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms thought individual and group work
  • Share your recovery story and common experiences in order to assist individuals in developing skills to achieve their treatment goals
  • Help individuals learn productive ways to communicate with their parent/caregivers and other adults
  • Promote Recovery through role modeling and coaching
  • Assist individuals to get connected to their local community resources

Requirements

  • Lived experience with own mental health and/or co-occurring substance use challenges. Please submit a cover letter with your resume that describes your personal experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use issues
  • Must be actively engaged in personal recovery process
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology or related field is strongly preferred
