Description of Position

As a Licensed Practical Nurse supporting the Emergency Services Program, you will work in a community-based voluntary psychiatric Community Crisis Stabilization Unit assisting those who are experiencing urgent psychiatric treatment needs. Your support will be recovery-oriented and use evidence-based psychopharmacology, safety planning, group therapy, and case management services. You'll also have unparalleled support and learning opportunities working with a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, physicians and nurses.

Client Care
  • Administer medications as ordered by the psychiatrist; monitor consumers for clinical/side effects and document observations for review by the psychiatrist
  • Provide professional patient care
  • Collect patient data and participate in treatment planning
  • Administer medications and medical treatment as prescribed by physician
  • Provide nursing care and serve to educate residents with respect to the use of psychiatric medication
Clinical Support
  • Complete all medication administration documentation in accordance with policies and procedures of the program and Agency including transfer of physician orders, documentation of the Medication Administration records, and sample medication distribution
  • Assure that all service protocols for storing, administering and destroying medications are consistent with current nursing practice and the regulations of the Department of Public Health, Food and Drug Division, Chapter 94C
  • Contact on-site or on-call psychiatrists to obtain written or verbal physicians orders for all CCS client admissions to the program
  • Conduct and document controlled substance counts in the controlled substance log book in compliance with applicable regulations and policy
  • Document and report patient progress to treatment team medication administration following proper policy & procedures


Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts at the time of appointment and continuously throughout tenure in position (or must be eligible to obtain LPN licensure by time of hire).

  • Experience in psychiatric nursing preferred
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring direct care/nursing staff
  • Understanding of safety and regulation protocols for administering, monitoring and disposal of medications
  • Ability to organize, communicate and maintain necessary records
